i am hoping to buy a second hand car in the next few days. Just curious how long does it take to get the registration changed at this time of year.

I am assuming I can not tax it till the registration is in my name and I am assuming I cant drive the car till I have it taxed?

You can tax the car as soon as the change of ownership is complete. It usually only takes a few days and you can check on the motortax website. I’d suspect that there would be a delay of at least a few days around this time.

Technically the car shouldn’t be driven without tax but nobody is going to stop you and the Garda are generally understanding of the fact you can’t tax a car for the first few days. NCT and insurance are far more important
