New Aer Lingus carry on rules

So they seem to include a 10kg checked in bag with standard bookings (within europe) but if you take the bag to the gate you will be charged €35.

Are they strict on this ? will they apply that to eastpack type bags ? 35cm long?

And to think at one time the airlines were MAKING you take 10kg wheelies on board to save money on the hold baggage costs. Seems to be the opposite now.

If going for a few days/week, I use a cabinmax backpack. Fits loads, and goes under the seat. TIP.... the dreaded middle seat on Ryanair anyway has a much bigger under seat space than the window or aisle. Not sure about AL haven't used them in many years now. Always delayed and a bit disorganised I found.

I find Ryanair are much worse for delays lately than Aer Lingus. They really struggle with the 25 minute turnarounds in Dublin.

For the return trip next week, I have packed some stuff into a box, and an Post want to charge me €30 to ship them, I am wondering (it's under 10KG) can I use this box as one of the 10KG check in bags we get on a standard booking ? - that we haven't used ?

the dims are 48cm x 42cm x 60cm.

edit ok it seems these dimensions are too big for the 10kg check in bag, but for the "main" check in, is there a limit ?

Im presuming the 25kg for 5eur means add 5kg to existing bag, so i guiess 40kg in 2 bags is my best bet ...

but can it be anything ? like the box dims above ?

I think the trick with this is appearance as the square bags that look like mini-fridges look big.

You be fine with the bag you mention, i think the ratio is about 3 to 1 so each kg of clothing will take 3 litres of space.

The bag above is the one i use and it holds a ton of stuff and looks small.

Another trick is when boarding have the bag in your hand the opposite side to the checker and slightly behind, if your casual and have everything ready they likely not notice, once you on the plane you be ok.

these are the demensions EasyJet and Ryanair use AerLingus are just 10kg.

I assumed you were going to remove from box and put in bag.

No, I got an extra bag to check in - the 2 bags total 40kg option.

One of them is this cardboard box with 48.42.60 cm dims, as it's now a "main" in-the-hold bag, i am assuming this is ok, on their website they just have max size 158cm ... assuming this means max length...
