Best Travel Insurance

Hi all, I was recently in the UK and my British Airways return flight was cancelled due to Air Traffic restrictions at Heathrow. Unfortunately the earliest flight that BA could get me on was 2 days later. Due to commitments at home I couldn't spend another two days away so I made my way to Stansted, checked into the hotel and got the first Ryanair flight out the next morning, assuming that I'd be able to get something back from the travel insurance but because I arrived in Dublin within 12 hours of the original planned arrival they rejected the claim (even if it had been more than 12 hours the payment would have been just €20) so my question is is there any travel insurance policy that will cover the reasonable cost of returning home if the original is cancelled and the alternative offered isn't suitable?

Never assume anything with insurance. Most policies have a specified payout per 12/24 hours but you really need to compare t&c's.

Was there no flights available on Aer Lingus?

The insurance stance would be 'disinclination' to travel so rightly or wrongly rejected your claim. It all boils down to your policy wording.
