Loose wood screws

A few of the little hinge mechanisms on my kitchen cabinet doors are loose and screws cannot be tightened (due to screw being loose rather than any issue with a shorn screw head) , or if tightened only stay tight for a day or two. Just to be clear, this is only 2 or 3 screws, majority can be tightened up no bother.

Just wondering what's the normal approach here? Patch up the hole with some kind of wood filler, let it dry and go again? Or is there such a thing as a mini little "rawl plug" (or some kind of screw in version like something you'd use in plaster) for wood that might go into the hole tight and allow me to then screw into that?

    Thanks very much

Matchsticks or similar sized slivers of wood. Trim/shorten before inserting in the hole. You might have to split a matchstick if the play is small.

Cocktail sticks or wooden food skewers work too if you don't have matches.
