Plumber or electrician

    Hi there

Tonight my RCD tripped. I turned off all the MCBs and then turned the RCD back on. I then turned the MCBs back on in turn and found that it was the one for the water pump that was tripping it.

It is a Walrus TQ400 pump for circulating water around the house.

My question is who do I need to contact to resolve this? A plumber or an electrician?

    Thanks!

Plumber in my book, as the electrical problem appears to be clear-cut and no further electrical investigation is required and they can replace the pump and re-wire the pump back up.

electrician. He may want to test the pump though.it’s not always clear cut what appliances are tripping a rcd. There may be something else causing the issue

Is the pump accessible? You could just put a new one in mate. Might he cheaper than having a sparks or plumber out.

Plumber, if you are sure it is the pump. I wouldn't trust an electrician to ensure no leak after replacing a pump.

What about the pump guy? The fact that's it's tripping out. Might be one for the sparks.

They can be expensive to replace. But some are easy to fix. I would not be going near a spark or plumber if the issue is the definitely the pump. Any issues I had with pump I had in APT. I got the pump guy. The pump was for all the taps except mains and the toilet. Not the pump for central heating.

The pump is the only thing on that MCB. At least that's what it says inside the fuse box.

There is a fuse spur for the pump so I'm going to try changing the fuse in that tomorrow and see what happens.

Replacing the fuse didn't work anyway. It tripped again straight away.

    Hi Niall

I have exact same problem with Walrus pump. It is tripping the fuse board.

What was solution to your problem?

    Thanks

    Tom
