Are these Christmas tree lights repairable or should I just dump them

As you can see in photos below the wires attached to the plug have become frayed from been inside an outdoor waterproof box.

Could I cut open the plastic where the wires are frayed and solder on two new cables or is it not worth the hassle?

Moulded plugs are not designed to be repaired so really you are looking at replacement I'm afraid.

Dump them. They're cheap as chips .

They could easily be repaired, but unless you have an old broken set of lights or you could buy a new set cut of the molded connection and leave some cable then just butt connect the cables . Simple’s

Bring to the WEEE section at your local recycling facility or back to the shop

They can be repaired. Cut off the moulded strain relief to expose the two cables. Add two bits of heat shrink to the cables if you have it. Remake the connections again with soldering, move the heatshrink over the new joints and heat them.

Whether you think it’s worth it due to their low cost is up to you.

That is, in my opinion, a flaw designed into the product to ensure predictable redundancy. It's on every one of my LED lights also. No way does that wire last more than about 3 or 4 years under normal use and the strain-relief on that connector is a pure joke. Well done to whoever designed it in, hope you got your once-off bonus.
