Car is Nissan Micra 2008 1.2ltr and the wipers just went kaput yesterday. They dont move but there is a hum from the motor when they are engaged so Im presuming that is okay and its just part of the spindle or mechanism that has snapped. My mechanic tried his 2 breakers but no joy. I can find them online but delivery is 7-10 days so looking for any pointers on where I could find them quicker in the Dublin/Kildare/Wicklow area.

I bet you dont need a new kit as what happens is the ball and socket pops off when wipers are stuck to screen/frozen or moving snow.

If you have a few tools a DIY job you can do

Halfords or some motor factors will stock them.

We used to buy these kits and saved the customer money as the plastic inserts were all that was needed as the hole in arm and the ball were measured to get the correct size from the kit. Busiest time of the year as people dont lift wipers off the screen

Ring this number as C&F motorfactors supplied kits to them 01 453 4535

no I had an order in for the windscreen wiper linkage and now I get an email this morning to say that it is cancelled as they dont have stock, was fuming. Have tried the three breakers who have Nissan Micras on findapart but none have it. I can source from the UK no problems but Royal Mail are having strikes at the moment and it would take until December 29th to deliver.

Regarding the Halfords kit above- my wipers werent stuck in snow/ice, they just stopped working mid flow when I was driving in rain. Up until that point they were actually bashing a fair bit to the right hand side of the windscreen, like they were going too far. Given this info do you reckon they would still do the trick?

Worn linkages , but check by lifting up wipers off screen to see if it moves on the spindle as when new no side movement but when worn the centre shaft has worn a slot in the spindle which can make it slap around . Then its a new linkage as motor comes complete with linkages.

Its common on many cars that spindles wear and more so linkage bush in heavy rain puts more force on wiper blade and it pops off

I dont know if you want to chance RAINEX on windscreen to bead off water?

When you mean too far is that slapping the bottom or side of screen as nuts do come loose on the wiper spindles and wipers move position .

Thanks greasepalm. It sounds like I might be better off buying the whole linkage minus the motor as a DIY fix is beyond my skill. Ive found one on Amazon Germany so think I'll order that as delivery is next Monday so at least it will be on the way while I drive a different car.

The wipers were slapping the right hand side of the screen, it was only really when they were in the highest speed setting that I noticed it

you're right and I just cancelled the order from Germany as it wont fit a right hand drive car, hadnt even thought of that before ordering so back to square one. I can get it from the UK no problems but Royal Mail are having intermittent strikes so Amazon sellers are giving December 30-Jan 5th as the delivery window, ebay sellers havent updated their shipping times but its going to be the same. Bloody nightmare this yolk.
