steel brake line nct fail

    Hi All,

    Had a mercedes w212 fail nct on rusted steel brake pipes, on both rear brakes. (flexi sections are ok)

    Anyone know if cutting back and getting a new section spliced is an acceptable repair, or do the lines have to be replaced completely?


    What sort of cost could i expect in either case?

    Its fine as long job done right(no leaks). Its harder to prep fitting on steel pipe, could be simpler to replace section to the next existing fitting/joint

    If DIY, flaring tool will be needed ~35+delivery on Amz

    copper line(€25 for 25ft) + fittings(~€1 pp) -> local motor-factors/online


    As done that myself, no idea what garage would charge, sorry

    Always depends on the car and how easy it is to access the pipe and if short or long.

    There is a special tool for flaring the hard steel over the copper ones as not all say can be used on steel.

    Plus the tool for cutting the pipe.

    We did that years ago as had the tools fittings and pipes and after the job was finished road test the vehicle and recheck for leaks and everything is dry.
