Ford Focus wouldn't open with keyless fob

I have a 2014 ford focus that wasn't started for about 6 weeks. I couldn't open it with my fob so thought battery might be dead on fob and tried my wife's, no luck. I saw a red light flashing on the dashboard but couldn't make it out. I assumed the battery was low. I opened the fob and used the key blade to open car. I tried to start it up see what would happen. It started without issue and then the fob could lock and open.

Any ideas as to what this could be?

No I didn't change anything. Just opened with the key and all worked.

I had used forscan to program keys on my last focus but this December 2014 one is the 2015 model and I couldn't do it with forscan or any other way. I don't think that's an issue as only difference between today and yesterday is that I used the key blade. Worked with neither fob before that. Now works with both. It's strange. Do key fobs lose program when not used?

See cars use a rolling code and if the button is pressed a good few times away from the car they get out of sync and the car may reject the remote. After a while they get back into sync.

This happened me recently in a Ford Focus too. Key / Fob hadn't been used in 4-5 weeks, when I went to open the car the fob wouldn't work. Thought the battery was flat in the car but the key opened it, car started, and now fob works fine again. Presume it was just something random going on..

Strange isn't it. No idea if it's a fault in the fobs or some sort of designed security thing? Can't see how it would be secure though

I am putting it down to some sort of security feature. I was cursing saying the battery in the car was flat when the fob wouldn't work so opened the doors with the key and the alarm went off so knew the battery in the car was ok. Drove it and then the fob locked it when I finished and fob is working ever since...

I realised I only had one blade, so it prompted me to get a second one cut it case it happens and I've also lost the fob with the blade! Yeah i was about to buy a battery charger so was relieved, I only pushed the start button to see what would happen so was a pleasant surprise.
