Hi my car heater not working and just blows out cold air. I think this has been a problem since the summer but I only kopped it now it's getting cold lol

I called Best Drive Wexford and they told me they do not provide that repair service as that is a specialist service and told me there is a crowd near Zurich Insurance in Wexford that offer that service. He did not know the name so does anyone know which company he referred to or any recommendations in Wexford Town area?

I have a feeling this will be expensive to fix unfortunately.

Sounds like a job any decent mechanic could do. Best drive only do basic servicing and tyres

    1. Check your coolant level

    2 Check all the fuses.

3 . Could be the thermal resister.

    4. Blocked heating matrix ?

    Could be an airlock

Jack the car up on its front wheels (or pack on a hill)

Should have a bleed but for any trapped air.

Also, are the hoses that come from the heater matrix getting hot?

Thanks a million for the advice. It turns out coolant was empty. Heating is back working perfectly and trip to the mechanic only cost me €10. Mechanic told me it's a good habit to be checking coolant level weekly.

It's easy to take things for granted lol I really enjoyed my drive back with a heated car.

You were lucky didnt damage engine where was coolant gone.

If the coolant was dry it could be a head gasket issue, I had same issue with a mondeo 1.8tdi

If it ran low on coolant then there is anther issue. It's a sealed system - coolant is escaping and needs to be rectified.

Topping up the coolant is curing the symptom but not the disease. Having to check coolant weekly is ridiculous.

I checked and it does not look to be leaking thankfully.

Yes very lucky indeed as I was told that can damage the engine.

It might be leaking slowly. It almost can't not be. The coolant that was in the system has to have gone somewhere.

I'm a little surprised that the mechanic just filled up your coolant and let you go on your merry way thinking that all is well!

The mechanic told the op to periodically check the coolant.. I presume that if there is a drop in coolant further action will be taken.

No point in performing tests or replacing partsvuntil you know that there is a leak. For all we know, the car could have been bought 2nd hand, and had low coolant for some unknown reason.

Step 1. Replace coolant, monitor the situation.

If your headlight bulb failed, you wouldn't do a full electrical diagnostic of the vehicle. you'd replace it.

If it kept failing every month, then you'll investigate further.

He checked at the time for leakage...after pouring the coolant, he then poured water.
