Boiler replacement question.....

    Hi folks,

I will freely admit I haven't got a clue here hence why I'm asking for your advice.

Live in a standard 3 bed semi in Ratoath, Co. Meath (Dublin basically). Have a gas boiler that's been making some strange noises recently and want to get it replaced before it breaks down completely on Christmas Day etc. It's 16 years old so prob. well past replacement date. From talking to the guy who used to service it yearly t wasn't a great one to start with but it's worked until now.

Anyway, he's moved so I don't know where to go to start asking questions/advice on replacement. Any advice?

Now to further complicate things......I want to extend and completely renovate the kitchen area next year. The boiler is currently in a certain position but if I get the new one installed there am I stuck to that as a location going forward, or can I move it when I remodel?

Apologies if I haven't been particularly clear on this hope I sorta explained it?

Yes, boiler can be moved if you're Installer is happy with new location, you might need a new flue in case the old one isn't long enough for new location.

Are you sure it's going to give up soon? I suppose if the usual engineer said it wasn't great to start with then maybe it is at end of life. My gas boiler was installed in 1990, had it serviced couple of weeks ago and it's in fine form, although to be fair they made them better years ago!

I did discuss with engineer what would happen if it did give up, the biggest part of the job was all the metal pipe from boiler to utility room would have to be replaced with plastic so if you have plastic already it might make it easier at least.

If I were you, I would have the boiler serviced and when I extend and remodel, that is when I would get a new boiler in the new location.
