I need to calculate the area of the hip roof trapezium

I have the width top [0.986] and bottom [4.174m] and the vertical height,[.718] not the sloped length say the slope is 30 degrees

    Surface area or Volume?

    - is the room square?

Split it into 2 right angled triangles and a rectangle in the middle.

    Middle rectangle 0.986 x 0.718.

If both sides are symmetrical, the base lines of each triangle will be 1.596.

Area of right angled triangles - (base by height) divided by two.

    Double check the sums.

Thanks, the vertical height is not the slope length, which is the puzzle

to get the slope length I used tan 30 degrees = Slope length / 1.574

    0.577 x 1.574 = Slope length = 0.908

    area of trapezoid = (0.986 + 4.174)0.908/2

    2.34m2

I assume your looking for the area of the slopped roof?

Personally I would find the length of the midpoint of the four roofs and multiply my the length of the slope
