Gas boiler has expansion vessel?

Hi folks,

I want to get the pipe work tidied up where the oil boiler would have originally been fitted in side of house. I want to clear the floor space so wondering can most of the pipework be tidied up and the expansion vessel removed? A new idea gas boiler was fitted 3 years ago so I assume it has a expansion vessel so the old one can come out?

Run a pipe straight back and up the wall mount the pressure vessel on that then put a wooden floor in to cover up the stuff on the current floor?

Want to tidy up the floor as much as possible. Solar Inverter and battery going on the wall

Yes you can movethe expansion vessel. But unless you can find another one I would assume you only have one.

Thanks, I thought most modern gas boilers have their own built in?

Bit of history to it... When we moved in house had been converted to gas.. a few years in the boiler was giving trouble and if memory serves the expansion in that boiler failed and a plumber fitted the big red one outside.. when the new boiler was fitted few years ago I'm not even sure if they looked at where the expansion is.. probably not as I had it full of crap.. Im guessing when the oil boiler was taken out they just capped off the pipes or looped them or something.. the boiler room is actually inside the house.. it's a little square room build into the gable of the house

Most gas boilers are sold as ‘system boilers’ and have an onboard expansion vessel - which appears to be the case with your one. However it is often too small for the installation it is connected to and a secondary vessel is required to provide the required total expansion.

What size house is it?

I would suggest keeping the additional expansion if at all possible (and replace the vessel while you are at it). It could be relocated to your hot press possibly?

The 10litre onboard vessel would likely provide sufficient expansion for that, but I would still favour having the additional vessel if you can accommodate it somewhere.

Thanks will see if I can get a plumber to check it out..it's a mess there to be honest with the old pipes.
