Revenue - Emergencey tax -Cant Get through ??

I have a 16 year old starting a new part time job, first job so you have to ring up with employers details and cant be done online.

We Rang 01 7383636 8 times friday and 6 times today and it just says its high volumes and cuts you off, is there anyway to register a first time worker to avoid paying emergencey tax on small part time income??

Look up the Irish language number, and call that.

Call volumes are usually lower.

Don't have that much Irish? Don't let that worry ya, the person on the other end will usually be very happy to work in English.

Their employer should be able to register the employment using their payroll software. The employer can do this be requesting a new RPN.

Employer can not request RPN for employee first job.

The employee can add the job via MyAccount on Revenue.ie. May need to register for such, might have MyGov login also which can be used to log in.

Thanks for input- did get through eventually - it appears teenager with first job has to register my account with revenue first- this takes time though as one has to wait for a password in post which means first pay check this friday ( only started last friday in job) will see emergencey tax paid...not ideal but not sure much we can do ...

Hopefully it comes fairly quick. If you have it Wednesday and register job then, employer will get the details in real time so might get in, in time for payroll run on Thursday.

If not, the employee will get the tax back the week after presuming the employee will be set on a Cumulative tax basis - check the tax certificate that issues to see this - will be in My Documents on Revenue.ie.
