Saw an MG HS in traffic today, it has this weird plastic thing with 2 visible screws on it holding it on. Any idea what it is or why it’s there. Looking online it’s not on all of them.

Maybe it’s meant for markets that use square plates or something? Looks weird anyway.

I think that's pretty much it, it's a number plate holder if I remember correctly from the one I looked at in their former dealership in Cashel. Wait until you see the panel gaps and misalignment on the new MG4. It's pretty impressive

Panel gaps didn’t do Tesla any harm 😂

Neither did the issue where they used something like, 10 different screw/bolt sizes, and numerous build quality issues.. but hey, it's an EV.. it must be good for the sea turtles.

    Dacias have better build quality.

Having said that.. ice mustangs are pretty sh it too.. misaligned bumpers, panel gaps, crap boot floors.

So Colm Hanley lost / gave up the franchise ?

MG5 is exactly the same. It's pretty much as Colm speculated. They have captive nuts inserted in the factory for square plates. The black plastic holder can be used both ways.....it will line up both above or below the plate.

It's not quite as visible if used above the plate which explains why Colm hasn't spotted it on all Cars.

On my MG5 it's above the plate, and there's a bit of a rattle as the tailgate is closed. I'll probably just stick a bit of Felt or thin foam behind the bottom of the plate to quieten it.

Gave it up according to my source. Too much hassle considering they took orders that can't be filled. You invest in a brand, buy a franchise and expect to make money. No sale, no money.

Nor the Ford F150 - supposedly the biggest selling vehicle in the world for the past 40 years.

Looks like a square reg plate holder that you’d see on Jap imports

Hi, I have a simple solution. I printed the logo and the inscription, which I stuck on the part that sticks out. It looks good.😉
