Payscale hopping?

Hope someone could share their own experiences.

I've been offered a temporary 3 year role with a local authority and a permanent role within the civil service. The local authority pay is a good bit more.

Is it possible to sign a contact with the local authority and then leave quite quickly, but keep that salary in the civil service?

What are the terms and conditions about starting salary for your CS role? This is generally covered in the competition booklet.

They're both "technical roles" with some overlap. The temporary role would be about the 5th on the scale of the permanent one.

I just checked and it says:

"Important Note:

Different terms and conditions may apply, if, immediately prior to appointment the appointee is already a serving

Civil Servant or Public Servant."

I don't know what "may apply" means basically.

The CC one goes up higher but the LA one starts a lot higher.

Well then it's a promotion and you'd move to the next point in scale plus a promotional increment in Civil Service .See point 3.1 and 7.3

I really appreciate that document. I've read it there but just for clarity, it's an Executive Technician (3 year role). The scale is below:

(LA scale) 46,598 – 47,739 – 48,909 – 50,073 – 51,249 – 52,422 – LSI 1 54,130 – LSI 2 55,838

The permanent role pay scale is the same as Engineer III (below):

(CC Scale) 34,770 – 37,424 – 40,418 – 43,407 – 46,406 – 48,259 – 50,107 – 51,966 – 53,827 – 55,696 – 57,561 – 59,428 – 61,297 LSI 1 63,381 – LSI 2 65,452.

Am I understanding correctly that I will effectively start on 50,107, and move up every year from that point?

I would have assumed you need to be confirmed in your post, i.e passed the 12 month probation, to keep your scale.

OP, you need to speak to HR of the permanent gig before you make a decision you might regret

Might not be the worst thing. I've never worked for either but the difference is 12 grand or so even if it is temporary.
