The tax disc is in the post and my partner's test is tomorrow.

I believe they don't accept the online receipt? Is there a way that the disc can be printed in the motor tax office?

    Hi,

Perhaps this might work. But time not on your side. Perhaps try get replacement car,

    See https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/omt.do

    Lost/Misplaced Tax Disc

You must apply to your local motor tax office for a replacement tax disc where the original has been lost (e.g. in the post) destroyed or damaged.

You must complete Form RF134, get it witnessed and stamped by a member of An Garda Siochána, and then send to that office. Form RF134 is available at your local motor tax office or by clicking here. The motor tax office will give you a replacement disc over the counter.

For any other queries about delivery of your disc, please email motortax@transport.gov.ie, including your vehicle registration number.

PS But hopefully, it might be in morning post

Most driving instructors will let you use one of their cars for the test if you're completely stuck. Maybe give your instructor a call

Correct. They won’t except an online receipt.

If you don’t have a physical tax disc your partner will need another car to do the test.

This is OT but the Testers are a joke at times, any excuse not to go out. If that online receipt is good enough for the Guards it should be good enough for them. It not like this is a safety issue for them.

There's 2 different offences with Tax. One is non display of a valid tax disc and the other is using the vehicle without tax. If a Garda stops you they will rarely do you for non display if you have a receipt, but a parking warden can ticket. But the Gardai letting off a minor offence does not mean that you are road legal.

The issue with the test is that you need to provide a road legal vehicle and that needs a valid tax disc. Its very rare that you get no notice of the test so not having your vehicle road legal is your fault not the testers.

The testers aren't allowed that discretion. The car is either road lgal or it is not.

If someone who plans on taking a test isn't capable of ensuring in advance that the car they use in the test is road legal, then maybe it is a good thing that they aren't given the privilege of having a licence.

I might have jumped the gun there alright. I worked with testers in a previous job and they were very frustrating. I get that they have to stick to the rules but my experience was that they also used the rules to hide behind taking responsibility and to avoid working if they could.
