DPF regenerating faster after work done.

    hello ,

I've got a Ford van with the small 1.6 psa engine and it's been reliable for the last two years.

It has 130km on it , so i decided to get belt and oil changed.

I like looking after the dpf so I screen shot when it regenerates , which was always every 600-750 kilometers or two weeks.

Since I got the belt and oil done , the dpf is filling every 200 km or every few days.

I thought it might be just the oil biting off some extra stuff because it was fresh , but it seems to be getting shorter every cycle.

I am interested to know what people think as it's the first time in 130k km that the van hasn't been serviced by official ford garage

    regards.

Check for pending fault codes. It can take 400+km before fault codes can appear. Do the differential pressure readings seem normal?

Did they use the correct low ash oil?

I haven't had time to ask what oil was used ,i just presumed everyone uses low saps oil on diesel now .

Hopefully it's the wrong oil , one thing i know for sure is that the hotter the engine gets the faster the dpf is sooting.

    If i am on City roads it's 1% per 15km at around 240oC , on the motorway at 360oC it's 1% every 5 km

I only use a dpf reader when driving ,Ill try using forscan to get pressure readings , I've never had reason to go that far as I was happy with the readings I was getting before.

I have used forscan and got idle exhaust differential of .4kpa and at 1500rpm while driving 1.5kpa

According to my ford dpf app ,the dpf load is 7%, and the current soot is 51% after 205km

I am not sure on the readings you mention but some questions

When you rev does pressure so up as in is pressure sensor working?

Are temperature readings ok before and after DPF?

How many km between do regeneration s? Is it getting worse?

Do regenerations work ok, as in exhaust temperature rises to 460+ Celsius and finishes after less than 60km with good pressure readings?

You need to determine if fault is DPF system or an engine putting out smoke that fills a good system quickly.

If it's dpf system then is system ok but DPF near end of life but full of ash.

Full of ash typically means it regenerates successfully regularly but there is so much ash in the DPF there is very little room for new soot and it gets full quickly. As in 70% ash, only room for 30% soot.

The ford DPF app should be able to show how much it's full right after regeneration complete which is ash level.

Here is write up I put online for a golf but similar is true for ford.

I sold that car before DPF issues happened. Another car I had I needed to diagnose pressure hoses broken due to blocked old ash full DPF that then regenerated every 80km.
