Do many farmers have open slurry storage?

What's the plan for sorting this out, there's five years to fix the issue. My understanding is that a grant can be offered up to 12 months after it comes into law but I haven't heard it being mentioned anywhere, so I'd presume its not in the pipeline. Massive cost associated with it

Have a steel tower and an underground concrete tank uncovered. If I have to cover the concrete tank I'll likely have to redo it and may stick a shed on top as part of development. Dunno how much it'll cost to cover the tower but see it as a pointless exercise really given the length of time it's full to the freeboard is fairly short

Underground concrete tanks don't have to be covered, towers do, have a tower that's nearly 50 years old so I don't know what to do with it.

Is the tower near its operational end anyway? What kind of lifetime are they expected to have? Took one down here that was about 30 years old and was showing its age.. They're neat and clean though..

From 31 December 2027 all uncovered tanks have to be covered.

Similar to Mooooo I'm looking at covering it with a shed, rainwater from half the yard goes into it also so that will have to be covered also

Are you sure? A floating cover would be a pretty simple solution for a lagoon, but the thinking behind this was to stop ammonia loss, not to keep out water, and thought the brainwave had been parked..

25 to 30 years I think is the run of them, I patched it up last year, resealed all the joints but it is shook in places, in all likelihood I'll have to replace it soon.

I've installed a sort of natural lagoon below our own clamped fym storage. Seem to work well cos the water in the drain below is always crystal clear, have recently installed a new septic tank nearby with emergency overflow piping feeding into the same lagoon. The natural reed/bull rush cover on it makes a nice wildlife habitat too:)

Do any of ye know if their are any scientific studies that show the growth of natural vegetation growing across the surface of a lagoon reduces ammonia emissions. From late Spring to Winter our lagoon has a healthy growth of vegetation growing on the surface- we agitate the lagoon and draw from underneath the growing surface iykwim.
