In 2012 I pulled out my boiler and rads and fitted two air to air heat pumps and they thought I was mad

It's OK I still think your crazy and mad for doing that. I have an oil fired boiler and radiators and love that I can buy oil whenever it suits me and can turn my heating off in the Summer then turn it on only when I neeed to in the winter and only use what oil I want to use when I need to use it unlike and air to air that you can not easily turn off in the Summer so in the Summer it's wasting energy heating houses that do not need to be heated and if joy did turn it off it is very complicated to get it started and going right again especially for the not well informed on them.

Sounds like you're not well informed yourself to be honest.

So where do I start ?

Oil fired boiler and rads uses oil- a very expensive fossil fuel that is a finite resource, inefficient, highly polluting and a serious cause of climate change.

In comparison, air to air heat pumps are probably the most efficient form of heating and cooling available, with electric inverter driven compressors and temperature close control. They heat the air directly to the desired temp, not like OFCH where you burn the oil, heat the water to 70deg, pump the water, water heats the rad, the rad heats the air…

Air to air Hp’s use electricity which I can choose to buy from my green energy provider or use my own solar generated electricity. They are so efficient, that these 2x 3.5kw heat pumps run for about €<1 a day in deepest winter- that’s a constant set point of 21deg 24hrs a day for €1 a day.

I can turn it on or off immediately by remote control.

In summer I switch them from heating to cooling by pressing a button on a remote control and have a fully air conditioned temp controlled environment in the house.

Living area I’d set for 21deg in summer, I may however set the bedroom units to 19 deg, makes sleeping easier through the heat waves, bearing in mind the HP is now running as an air conditioner and is running 100% on solar, free of charge.

Complicated to use, not really, one remote control per unit, set it for heating or cooling and a set temp - that’s it ..my 7 year old can even knock them on and off…

Think of the above the next time your ringing your heating oil supplier, you may start to fall out of love with that idea when you realise your dropping serious amounts of cash for something that your going to set fire to- and after you’ve burned it all, wait for it, your going to ring the same supplier and do it all again, you might as well be setting fire to the money in your wallet. Or maybe I’m just crazy and mad.

That's sounds great but not all of them are like that also some of us can not afford to change over and they would not be very good in the house as its not air tight so that would need to be done too as well as no pipes in the floor for it. An oil fired boiler is not a bad polluter. A diesel car is worse.

Hey your the one who started it. I know from experience of a good few who have had air to air systems and there electricity got more expensive as well as their systems not working right.

    They were not impressed.
