I have the option to go on 4 day. 40 hours. So 10.5hrs a day. It might be tricky to undo as it's a big advantage to Bossman so I don't want to commit to quickly.

    Pro and Cons plz?

Aiming for 3 day weekend. Shouldn't make a difference to him but could potentially be Wed, sat, sun.

Every day you don't have to get up and go in is worth it whether it's 3 or 2+1.

You will hardly feel the extra few hours on each day but will really notice the extra day off.

    * No this is not a duplicate account 😁

Will you have issues arranging childcare to allow you to do the longer days? Will you be getting up+out to get kids to school 5 days anyway?

Does the work really fit into 4 days? (Some jobs have customer expectations around 5-day availability, so end being harder to do.)

Is tha work very physical- how long / tiring will the long days be.

Where's the extra.5 hours coming from?

This isn't really a true '4 day week' as this involves reduced hours not longer hours compressed into 4 days. Plus you'll definitely end up working on your day off sometimes.

The extra 2.5 hours a day will feel long and if your work requires concentration you'll be absolutely wrecked after it.

If your commute is long it might be just about worth it but your employer's not doing you any favours here

What kind of work? Are you in control of your own schedule to any extent?

Nope, no kids or partner.....They've all cheated with my best friend or their coworkers...one after 5 years.....so heading for 40yo free and single unfortunately...or luckily. So my time will be mine...id be knackered but long sleep day 1 and then 2 free.

    Unpaid break = .5

Its not office job or public service....its the sh1tty version of 4 days yes. Lower paid crap conditions. Good man varadkar did f-all sitting on his tod the last 2 years.

Will your day off actually be a day off or will you still be expected to be available by phone/email. Whats the likelyhood of you getting called into work on your day off?

I find there is a huge difference in doing a 10 hour day every now and then and having to do a 10 hour day every day. Also if you need to stay late it becomes a very long day.

I wouldn't go to a 4 day week if it involved 10,5 hour days unless I had a very long commute. You are practically giving up your evening 4 days a week and will spend your day off recovering.

If a bank holiday happens on a day you don't work, then under Irish law you either get a different day off, or get paid a fifth of your average weekly wage extra.

Could you opt for two half days, early finish on a Friday (1pm) and late start on the Monday (2pm) ??

No, 10.5 hour days every day are not worth it. That’s not a 4 day week it’s 5 squashed into 4. I’ve seen people do that before and end up completely burnt out and sick of it.

During covid, for about 10 months I did a 40 hour week in 3 and a half days (by choice). 13 hour days Mon and Tue, 8ish hour day wed and the remainder Thursday morning. I could have spaced out the hours whenever I wanted over 5 days but I got addicted to the long weekends.

Its not good. I was never as unhealthy, both physically and mentally, I had to go back to the usual 5 full days for my own good. Insomnia, headaches, no appetite, might not eat from one day to the next, even when i was eating id get random weakness that lasted a day or two, I was a mess in fairness. My job wasn't physical but was mentally draining.

It might work for some but not for me. Try it out on a temporary basis and see if it works for you?
