    Winter Weather Advisory for Ireland

Very cold this week as an Arctic airmass sets in, bringing sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches on roads. Showers of hail, sleet, and snow will occur during the second half of the week. Updates with potential warnings will be issued in the coming days

Another horrible day in meath, colder then yesterday but the rain is the same, and looking like plenty more from the irish sea

miserable here in south Meath too, a cold, wet day, rain of the slightly sleety nature.

The worst possible type of day here in NCD, freezing cold and lashing rain.

Ah well I'll have to start working on Christmas tree , no excuse you couldn't be going out in that!

Best day in a long time. Wall to wall sunshine and calm.

Patiently waiting for a dedicated thread for the upcoming cold spell….. So what if it’s not a 2010 event. The FI thread is a mess and some of the weather being discussed is not even in FI anymore.

No let up since early morning, seem to be stuck under a constant stream of showers. Awful day. Hoping it might finally dry up in the next hour.

Met Eireann always underestimate wet easterlies. A cold (but not enough for snow) easterly tends to result in full days of rain for parts of the east, such as in November 2018, January 2021, and now. Each time, they've described the weather as scattered showers.

Yep Artane yesterday and today are total write offs here in NCD.

Nothing but rain, rain and more rain.

Yeah, nothing scattered looking about those showers hitting the east coast.

Meanwhile lovely and sunny West Clare. Cold with a biting breeze however.

Lovely winters day in with mayo

    sunny with a crisp breeze

I think they underestimate snowy easterlies too sometimes. On a few days in 2010 the forecast was mainly dry (with the odd wintry shower) when it was anything but...

Let's hope they're underestimating this one...

Quite cold today in the breeze but another lovely winters day in Galway. Ideal for walking. The land is draining well too.

I am hoping the mountains will get some good snow this week even if it doesn't fall at lower levels.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Yes, great weather for walking. Diamond hill would be a great place to be in this kind of weather.

Very heavy rain Meath around 4pm. Cleared a while. Raining now. 7⁰

Glad the West is getting drier weather than Dublin for once.

Weather was absolutely brutal in Dublin today.

Horrendeus in Meath today and it's still raining. It hasn't stopped raining all day, just imagine if this was all snow. The next few days should thankfully be much drier than today.

Not a bad forecast by Michelle Dillon after the 9 news there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 532 ✭✭✭Goldfinch8

A lovely cool, dry and bright winter's day here in Mayo today. The December sunlight was most welcome. It has been great to get a bit of a respite from the rain over the past few days. A glowing evening sky helped to wrap up things nicely then.

Hopefully the ECM will show something similar to the latest GFS run in the morning. Not that the weather takes account of our wishes, but you know what I'd take a relaxation of the cold/ a milder period, if we ended up with a snowy period up to and including Christmas. To see heavy snow falling on Christmas eve would be brilliant.

She’s one of the best around IMO. Explains things very well and her delivery is top notch.
