Can this windscreen be repaired or will it need replacing?

Woke up to this today. Its at least 45cm width to its widest points, including into the black surround which I think houses rain sensors etc

Its not deep at all, can run hand over it and barely feel anything it is still smooth

So, am I looking at full replacement or could it be repaired? And would insurance windscreen policies typically cover this type of vandalism without affecting no claims? I'll be checking on Monday anyway not in the humour to even try today

I can't see that being repairable. And in my experience with windscreen claims, they don't even ask what happened.

If you dont have a upto date NCT you can forget about the insurance company paying for it.

Replacement. Injection repairs need it to be only maybe 3cm in diameter at most.

    Obscure observation.

OP just get it replaced. It's too much for a repair and insurance should cover it fully with no impact on you.

That's a definite replacement. I had mine replaced recently by car insurance.

A chip that is smaller in size than a €2 coin and not next to the edge of the windscreen can generally be repaired. Those in the photo are multple cracks travelling towards the edge of the windscreen which cannot be repaired and I'd even think that windscreen is a NCT fail so not roadworthy. A windscreen insurance claim will show up on your NCB schedule alright these days but it doesn't attract a penalty with insurance companies. They do ask you to include windscreen claims when providing previous claims information when seeking a quote.

Thanks all, general consensus is that it's a replacement job. Thought as much and I'll be on to insurance on Monday. As for the nct comments it's a 2019 car so not due one for another year.

Just to add up, most comprehensive policies will cover upto 3x windscreen claims in the last 3 years. That's why it has to show up in end of year insurance statement. But luckily it didn't bring up my insurance when I renewed.

No need to contact insurance company, the repair company (in my case Autoglass) take your details and look after all the paperwork. You might check your insurance policy to see who is their preferred partner.

Can I ask ,how many years did/does your NCD statement page have now on renewal ? as last year mrs made a claim for windscreen and ncd statement went to 0 but with full discount ? i expected a statement with it but not the number to reset to 0!

I had the same happen to me about 10 years ago and still kept my full discount. The NCD showed 0 years without a claim and technically it was correct.... I claimed for a new windscreen and they paid out... It was a claim!

I didn't say it was - the OP had said he was going to contact his insurance company.

Please keep up, there's a good boy.
