It's hard to believe that's it's almost 3 years off air but there is still a big void in the RTE 1 Saturday evening schedule, elderly people really looked forward to it

Never even knew it was gone. Do they still sell the scratch cards?

No, it went off air in February 2020 due to covid but considering that all restrictions were lifted last February, if it was ever going to return, it would be back by now

    I preferred Winning Strip.

No, apparently it may return in the future in a new format.

Basically you get your three stars, if you get picked, you'll go to the National Lottery Head Quarters and you play a few games. It won't be on TV.

Wiki say that it may return in late ‘23

possibly there would be issues with funding the show when covid was gripping the country.

probably a significant cost of putting it on, camera operators, grips, riggers, directors, producers, production staff…

also the manufacturing of all the tickets takes significant time im reading…

Winning streak was always just mediocre chewing gum tv anyway although in fairness it was still better than most of the other crap on rte.

Do you really want that running on the final replay of your life as you die?

Private company going cheap and using covid as an excuse to reduce their offering.

They had the show down to a fine art, Marty for the old wine drinking Shiela’s.

If they do bring it back would they maybe change it to actually require a brain cell to play?

Friday night chewing gum tv, light entertainment, people playing games of chance, with the possibility of leaving with a nice few bob or prizes or holidays…no harm in it and it could be a reasonable watch if nothing else on…

No, I don't think so. It's lottery gamble so intelligence is specifically excluded from the chances of winning. It's meant to be 'dumb'.

Remember the Million Euro Challenge, with Nicky Byrne?

And that other clown, cant think of his name, famous for being married to someone famous. There was some cockup and he just stood there like a rabbit caught in headlights.

I'd occasionally watch it for sh*ts and giggles. They stopped doing it recent years but they used to do a video of the contestants in the week before they went on air walking the local town etc. talking to people wishing them luck etc. - it was more often than not unintentional comedy gold.

On very rare occasions you'd get a guest who was there for the craic to take the p*ss.....like Ciaran below.

My all time favourite scene from it however was one time Marty was asking an auld dear to pick a number between 1 and 5 in the section to decide who got to spin the wheel,. And she said "6".......which reminded me of this:

More Sinead Kennedy please. In fact, get rid of Marty. Get rid of Tubs too, give the girl the LLS. I might actually watch it then.

I miss supporting the oldest guy on it who clearly has no clue what is going on. Usually wins all the best prizes, cars, holidays and gets to spin the wheel to the irritation of the other contestants.

He is surrounded by family at the end. You can see him looking around a and nearly see him thinking ‘Who are all these people?’

Finding out that the drum to pick next weeks players is all staged was greatly disappointing to me. Apparently they used to get about 15 post bags of entries every week. Accountants would pick some envelopes randomly to choose the players and the producer would just tell Marty in his ear piece who was next.
