JSA for substitute teacher?

    Hi all,

I am working as a substitute teacher this year, I have a maternity contract up until March and will be kept on in that school until the end of the year most likely.

I only get paid the days I work, I do not get paid for mid-terms or Christmas and I will also not get paid for summer holidays.

Does anyone know if I am entitled to get JSB for these times? Also, how would I apply... Is it just the normal JSB application? (I believe they take a while to be processed)

    Thanks so much!

You will only get JSB if you have sufficient PRSI accumulated. You can see what the requirements are on citizensinformation.ie.

If you haven’t the PRSI then you’ll be meanstested for JSA. You can check out JSA on line too.

You can’t apply in advance for Jobseekers, you can only apply on your first day of unemployment. So you need to budget for a couple of weeks with no income.
