Old Sweet Shops

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for old-retro selling sweet shops here in Ireland? I know there is an abundance of popular places like PlanetCandy, CandyLand etc but has anyone come across any little gem shops? Small places in small towns or shops without a website?

There are some great newsagents like Brady's that sell tonnes of sweets. Also the bigger places sell plenty of stuff, and have the large American food-candy sections but I'm chasing the old-skool selections from years ago as a kid e.g. cola bottles, tongue painters, sour suckers, roy of the rovers, all of those beauty's! Seems to be a few shops in NI but anyone came across old places here?

Any recommendations?

There is Shandon Sweets in Cork City. Nice old style area in Shandon, just a few minutes walk North of the city centre.

There's one in Greystones, the sort with all the sweets in jars on shelves behind the counter and you buy by weight.

Memories of a 1940s childhood,,, sweets rationed and the only chocolate was whet the Yanks at the Base gave us

And every gocery shop sold sweets loose... I can still " smell" pear drops...

Uncle Joe's Mintballs... Gobstoppers... But it was very regional and I was in Lancasire... The mintballs were wonderful.. yearn... Cadbury Roses... Rainbow drops ..Liquorice allsorts...Pontefract cakes ....mostly unwrapped. In white paper bags..

Amazing, never heard of the Uncle Joe's, I must see can I find them online, I'll have to put in an order for some old skool sweets soon :)
