Just wondering what the story is with carrying holidays over. For example I carried 6 days over and these have gone to year 2.but I noticed this years holidays have also went into year 2 should this years not be year 1?

No, because the act of carrying them over impacts the leave year as a whole, and the order in which annual leave is taken for year 2 or year 3.

The order for year 2 or 3 is:

    1. Statutory minimum carried over from the previous leave year (if any)

    2. Statutory minimum for the current year

    3. Leave in excess of the statutory minimum for the *current year*

    4. Leave carried over that was not part of the statutory minimum

The really important thing is to *always use up all of your leave by the end of year 3, or you will forfeit some*.

As far as I know you can only carry out of year 3 if you were ill or on mat leave for a lot of that year.

Circular 27/03 is the one that applies for carryover.
