Accidentally went onto bus and taxis lane at Trinity College into Westmoreland Street

Hi,

I hope someone can help, I accidentally went through this area in the city centre today, I hadn't travelled through there in many years and before I knew it, I could not turn back. I ended up having to go onto O'Connell Bridge and then turned right on to Eden Quay, I'm just wondering, will I get a fine/penalty points and how much would it be?

Any help would be appreciates.

From what you described, you turned right to go up Westmoreland Street when the 'taxi bus gate' is to the left going up Dame Street. You will be fine. You did not do anything wrong.

Well, maybe the right turn on to Eden quay, but it is not at all clear where you are supposed to go.

Well you don't drive in a 24hr bus lane. Then it's clear that you can only go straight ahead.

Hi @spurious, thanks. I came down Dame Street and then left onto Westmoreland Street, I was left with nowhere to go and had to go onto O'Connell Bridge and take the left onto Eden Quay. I'm sure there are cameras there to monitor that only buses and taxis. Really annoyed with myself that I didn't even notice until too late.

No one cares about whether you observe bus gate or not, even if you had driven that way. Gardai certainly don't, and actively don't enforce it.

I'm reading it as you went around by the Bank of Ireland from Dame St onto Westmoreland St.

If you're not stopped I don't think you need worry, don't think there are any cameras on that area.

And it was Aston Quay you turned onto if you turned left!

I cycle home from work through there every day. I've occasionally seen the Gardai on Westmoreland St pulling people in as they come through that bus lane. If you weren't stopped you'll be grand.......
