Car had its clutch replaced in February and needed to have it done due to a seal breaking the month after. Oil

    and filter also done.

have read online about the fuel filter, any advice?

Ask a local independent garage to give it a test drive. Fuel filter, fuel pressure is normally the cause but worn spark plugs etc can give issues at high revs.

First petrol or deisel ? Big difference in how advice is given .

AFAIK petrols dont have a fuel filter except for the sock in the tank . Rarely that is an issue unless you constantly run the car down to empty . IF spark plugs were an issue the engine would run like a bag of nails with constant missfires . It would in general be constanly sluggish . NOw that said a good service could possibly fix that . If it doesnt than there could be a leak in the intake system .

Deisel complicates things a bit more . First cheack for a boos leak . Usually when a deisel filter causes issues , it will cut out while driving up in the rev range . The same sympton you described could happen . SO a 20-30 euro filter wouldbt be a bad idea to change . After that if the issue still persists then a garage is the best option . It is a 10 year old car . So a multitude of issues could be happening . Injectors , turbo , boost leak in pipes and sensors could all cause the same problem .

Basically all petrol cars will have a fuel filter aside from the one in the tank
