Looking to buy two rear tyres 245/35/17. They aren't available from what i can see in ireland. Any suggestions on what might be a suitable replacement?

I was looking into the rolling radius off various sizes. 215/40/17 is very close at 603.8mm compared to 603.3mm but they probably would look small and skinny in comparison.

I know its been nearly a week but just in case i will give you my advice . FIrst is go to a tyre centre and get them to order them . Tyre centres that are on good terms with suppliers well get them for you if its not a "I need it now " situation .

Onto the slightly bit more complicated advice . the 215/40/17 @ 100kph will be 1 Kph faster . A 235/35/17 @ 100Kph will be 1.2 Kph slower . Due to car manufaturers having by law to over report speed a 235/40r17 would do . At 100 kph you would be 2.7 Kph faster . In most cars @100 KPH reported speed you are going 5-10 kph slower . it its still within margins of error even though its a higher sidwall .

Now heres the kicker . Strecting tyres isnt advisable . After all tyres need to compress and flex from side to side . Removing that by stretching makes them more rigid and reduces the beads contact with the rim itself . You also get reduced grip and increased risk of aqua plaining . there would be very liitle stretch on a 235 section tyre .

I did work in a tyre centre B4 moving onto becoming a mechanic . SO its been a good 5 years ago still something seems off . Are you sure its not a 245/35R18 .

Ive decided on 215/40/17 on front and 235/40/17 rear. This is what I can see is the best possible option to keep close to in sync. Wheels are 8x17 front and 9x17 rear. Even at these tyre sizes there is no manufacturer that makes a full set in these sizes. I will have to go with different brand tyres front and back to get anything decent
