    Hi all,

I have heard of jobs which allow the employee to work anywhere within the EU. The UK is of course not included.

How would an employer ever 'know' if the employee was in the UK and working? Even if only for a brief period, eg a holiday. And what are the legalities of such?

Because they are able to check your location or make a very intelligent guess base on data transfer etc. and given the legal requirements concerning things like GDPR etc... firms tend to invest a lot on making sure there are no breaches. Depending on the circumstances you may find it is a dismissible offence.

And while companies may allow you to work remotely from anywhere in the EU unlike working for a company located in any other EU state there is no right to move to another EU state and work remotely from there. You can fly under the radar for the most part as an EU citizen, but once you want to make a life for yourself there it will be problematic to buy a property, get a mortgage, send kids to school etc... without having the right residency status.
