    Hello all,

Not a regular contributor to the Kildare forum (I'm a longstanding Boards poster based in Dublin) but I did happen to come across some very intreresting old aerial photographs of Dublin and its environs, including Leixlip, that date from 1971.

This photo shows Leixlip in October 1971. As you can see, most of the now developed land around the original village was still green fields back in 1971, but you can also see Castletown and Oaklawn estates under development to the west of the village. During the 1970s and 1980s Leixlip developed rapidly from a rural village into a Dublin commuter town and this aerial photo shows the beginning of that process.

The village is in the bottom right hand corner of the image.
