Is our roof suitable for Solar?

    Hi,

I'm considering getting solar installed , we've got 2 EV's now (Zappi V1) and before I go out getting quotes I'd like to get some opinions on the suitability of our roof space for panels.

The rear of the house is west facing but we have a dormer attic conversion as well, so I'm not sure if we can put panels on the back because of this and whether this would impact on the financial viability of installing solar.

    Any thoughts?

You'd be surprised what could be achieved there on front, back and porch but I'd plaster all available space and optimisers will deffo be a necessity

With 2 EVs are they home during the day? If so the Zappi can be set to just charge from solar during the day. If they are home during the day, they are the largest 'solar' battery you'll ever own. And you can then top up at night on cheaper rate (assuming you have one which would save a lot with EVs).

And on the roof, you'd be surprised what you'll fit. As @slave1 says, you're supplier will / should use optimisers for the parts of the roof that get shade due to the dormer roof pitch.

So deffo worth a few quotes and also use the 1st floor roof. I did that and fitted more that way.

West will give better power in the evening. East (if front of the house) will be better earlier in the day. So you could go with East and West to do both roofs. And can be different sizes too on East and West - don't need to match.
