Tax refund without job registration

    Hi guys, if anyone could give me advice that would be great.

    I have payslips from 2019 from a job, I worked for 3 weeks, I quit due to the emergency tax.

    As I was 17 and unable to register for a PPS number (due to my parents not being present), I was emergency taxed, and unable to register to revenue to allow for a refund.

    I have since gotten my PPS number, and am trying to process a rebate.


    Revenue has gotten back with:

    "In order for any overpayments of tax incurred in tax year 2019 your employer from this year must first register the details of the employment with Revenue and then provide a date of cessation for the employment.


    Once actioned, we will then be in a position to have the payroll submissions linked and you can then complete your 2019 Income Tax return claiming any overpayments of tax back.


    Please contact your employer from 2019 and request that they register and cease the details of the employment you held with them.


    Yours Sincerely,"


    I have tried contacting my previous employer but have not received a response.

    Could anyone advise how to proceed?

    Advise Revenue that you can't contact your previous employer. If the employers registered number (their version of a PPSN) is on the payslip or you have it, Revenue might be able to find you in the unlinked payroll from that employer for the period you worked for them as they probably included your name etc in the payroll submitted to Revenue. That's assuming the employer filed the payroll with Revenue.

    I think I might be able to get the employers registered number somehow, when I rang up Revenue that was one of the things he mentioned. It was not provided on the payslip though. I will try advise them. I just think the worst case senerio is they ignore me, and I would have to get a solicitor to proceed, which will be more than the tax returns themselves.


    I was looking into the WRC, and wonder would they have a word with them?

    Try finding the employers registered number first and if no joy then try the WRC.
