Is it necessary to have a B.E.R. assessment done before applying for a grant from the S.E.A.I?

No. I applied first, then the installer did the Ber some months later.

For Heat Pump a technical assessment is required in advance - this is not strictly speaking a BER, but does require much the same sort of analysis - just to make sure that the house is properly insulated and will allow the HP to run efficiently.

I recently moved into our home, a renovated 200 year old house, we have a applied for a few grants with SEAI and are about to post of DOW forms as expiry approaches this weekend. However, between the jigs and the reels and my own absolute stupidity I never realised we should have had a technical assessment carried out prior to installation of heat pump and now am very worried I will not be eligible for the 6.5k grant involved. We had a "dwelling details report" done prior to any works which I thought was all that was needed. Today I was informed by my ber assessor that a tech assess should have been done, bit late now. Anyone have any idea am I goosed? I have photos of the house pre works which was in an unhabitable state. I feel like such an idiot for not realising this before hand. The heat pump is in now but I feel I'm facing an absolute uphill task of getting a grant. I rang seai and they said submit everything I have and go from there...
