Engine fault light

This has come on 3 times in the last month. My mechanic said its showing a problem with the battery alternator but this was replaces in January, brand new one put in. he said it is charging correctly as well. When the light comes on the fan starts running very fast.

Do you have or can you buy a cheap odb fault code reader that connects to your phone? The fault code might at least confirm its related to battery/alternator. It might be something else.

bluetooth ones work best with Android phones, WiFi ones work best with apple.

Torque is best generic app to check fault codes. You may also be able to read 12 volt battery voltage when can is on and off which might tell you if battery is ok and alternator is ok.

My mechanic has one, he has checked it a few times for me. must ask him about replacing the battery itself.
