Is it just me or did Adeleke have a horrendous start to the race? Looked really slow out of the blocks. Her form was all over the place coming towards the line too. Decent time despite that, probably would have beaten the Pole if she got her race right.

Miller-Uibo is a monster, what an athlete.

Fourth for Adeleke in her heat in 50.81 - a very decent run, but I don't think she'll be entirely happy as she's capable of going faster. Still a great prospect though and she can only improve.

Another fine run from Rashidat Adeleke - 50.81 for 4th in her semi. Unfortunately, not going to qualify for the final. Hope she shuts her season down now after the relay and gets a well deserved rest.

Yes, a slow start once again and she was playing catch up as a result all the way down the back straight. In fairness, it was a fast run race and she's probably still finding her feet at this level. I think her team should let her compete at the Euros, it would be a good learning curve for her.

I'd say nerves played a part, which is understandable considering she had the world number's 2,6 and 9 in the lanes around her. Disappointing performance but she showed promising pace. She's gonna get faster and stronger and with a bit more composure and better execution she'll easily be making World finals soon enough I'd say.

Well she's had about 45 races including relays since the start of the year, so Euros might be a race too far. Just outside qualifying with 9th overall is not too shabby!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,240 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

That's actually much better than I thought. It shows her semi was a fast and a tough one. She's a great prospect anyway, definitely one for the future.

9th out of 24 with a lot of room for improvement is promising indeed. Still though, 0.16s off. She should be in that final!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,240 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

She said in her post-race interview she's tempted to go the Euros in August, but will first rest up.

Hope she does, her time was the 9th fastest yesterday and unfortunate to be in such a stacked semi.

With the 200 and 400 overlapping it would have been a step to far for her at her age. If she does go the Europeans will be really competitive at the 400 but I wouldn't expect her to double up given her long season especially if she commits to the 400 relay as well.

She was the 3rd fastest European.

Rhasidat had a great champs, that relay leg was special, followed up with her second fastest 400m ever, super experience. She's so young and lots more to come.

I hope she doesn't do euros and just rests up. That's a lot of racing below.

Fairly sure she injured herself either last year or the year before by extending her season. I also remember her competing as a juvenile with Tallaght and she'd wear strapping around her knees quite often.

I think world's is a great way to sign off for this season.

The college relays really stack up don’t they?!

To be fair to her team they’ve ran very sparingly outside the NCAAs so it looks like they have a plan. She might want the European medal all the same. No doubt they’ll see where she is in a couple of weeks time

I don't think he could have run it any better IMO. Took a great position very early thanks to a little nudge work and effectively controlled most of the race. He blocked Arop from going past him around the outside until the last 200 which basically meant he didn't get boxed in at all and came away with a Seasons best and 4th (upgraded to 3rd after Koetch got DQ'd).

What's very interesting about that heat is that the Swede got chewed up badly and nearly fell after a shove from Koetch. The cause of Koetch's DQ I think. He came 7th in the race but still ran fast enough to qualify as a fast loser. He probably would have been reinstated anyway but did really well to finish with the time he did.

Very tempting for her to do the Euros even though I agree she could do with the rest. There is a European medal very much up for grabs right now and how often can we say that for an Irish athlete

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,240 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

I'd say the Euros would be very manageable for her if she sticks to the one event - she only had three races spread over a week in Oregon, it's not as if she ran herself into the ground.

Mark English in the last heat. Could be an advantage.

I hadn't realised he'd gotten so close to his PB in the heat. 0.05 seconds off. That's turning up on the big occasion. Tough semi. I hope he's a little more in the tank and can PB.

I’d say it’s more the travelling, trying to peak again etc more than the number of races

Looking forward to seeing Klaver in the 400m final. Early season I thought she was mad, constantly doing the same thing and expecting a different result. She was hammering the first 200m and then blowing up spectacularly.

She clearly knew what she was doing, has her fractions perfect and peaking when it matters.

Phenomenal final 50m from Jackson, blew them away.

    Two fantastic 200m finals.

Hard luck for English. Another decent run but it was always going to be hard to replicate the near PB time he ran in the first heat.

Some comments on the last couple of days..

Great women's steeplechase, but it also underlined how the IAAF need to get a move on and figure out what to do with Intersex/DSD athletes once and for all. Getachew was (presumably) no longer allowed to partake in the 800m any more and moved up to the steeple instead. Made her debut in a very uncompetitive 9:53 last December, and now she's an 8:54 athlete and 4th on the all-time list. Harsh for Yavi to miss a medal. A great race though, even if it's disappointing to see Emma Coburn seems to no longer be a factor. Great NR from Gega too, who should be the favourite for gold in Munich.

Another global championships goes by and Klosterhalfen fails to make any kind of a mark. Were there any injuries coming in, or was she just poor? She won a bronze back in 2019 but has done very little of note since. Of course there's always been speculation about her weight, but I wonder if we'll ever see what she's truly capable of. McColgan also didn't look great in the 5,000, seems she hurt her hamstring recently which is a shame. Was hoping she'd be more of a contender in Eugene.

Big shame for Adeleke to miss the final. Surely she'd be crazy to give Munich a swerve? She'd be very competitive in a final, maybe even a medal contender.

I was initially a bit worried about Jakob in the 5k, wasn't sure if he was struggling or simply taking it very easy. Thankfully the latter proved to be the case. Surprised that Kipkorir let himself get run out of it, but didn't matter as he made the final anyway. Should be a great one, my initial money would be on Cheptegei doing the double.

Is Sedjati now the favourite in the men's 800m? Wasn't on my radar at all before Eugene.

Delighted for DAS getting a bronze, always comes across like a thoroughly lovely person, and to make the podium against the Jamaican trio is unbelievable! Can only imagine the shitstorm if Seyni beat her to a medal.

Nice to see Jackson get her first individual gold too, someone who's always been in the shadows of Thompson and SAFP somewhat. Incredible range over the sprint distances.

I see Almanza went out in the heats again. Incredible that a 1:56 800m runner has never once even made a Worlds/Olympic final.

Didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but only noticed today that Nozomi Tanaka took part in three events in Eugene! 800m, 1500m and the 5000m, though only made the final in the 5k. Might want be a bit more picky in Budapest!

On to tonight, women's 400m hurdles should be the highlight. Sydney McLaughlin is looking unbeatable and might just break her own WR again. Honestly think a sub 51 could be on the cards. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the same top three as in Tokyo.

Bit of a disappointing run there in the 4 x100 relay by our girls (44.88). Great Britain ran really well.

    50.68 WR for Sydney McLaughlin!

    Brilliant silver for Bol too.

I’ve followed Klosterhalfen’s career for years. I lived in Germany when she was emerging as a junior. There were no reports of injuries in the German media. She just seems to be in poor form.

There has always been speculation about possible eating disorders. To my untrained eye, she looks the same as she has always done, possibly even slightly healthier than in the past.

I get the sense that her training group just isn’t working for her. Her training partners, Jessica Hull and Sinclaire Johnson did quite well in the 1500m. However, Donovan Brazier was a disaster, albeit injury compromised, and Craig Engels is MIA. I feel like it might serve her better to reset, move back to Germany, and try to rediscover her old form. She’s hugely talented; it would be a shame if she fails to realize her obvious potential.
