Thinking about changing location

I've worked for the same company for a few years and for the most part I enjoy it.

Pre-Covid, I decided to relocate to a bigger city because, at the time, it seemed like the right thing to do, I didn't like where I was living, there wasn't really a lot to do, now, looking back, and comparing, I was spending a couple of hundred Euro less every month, compared to where I'm living now and it wasn't that bad of a place to live.

I like my current location, I'm close to a lot of malls, restaurants, and coffee shops and there's so much to do, only problem being, it's too expensive, rent is about 250 Euro more every month than I used to pay, and shopping and taxis are more expensive where I live, which is to be expected in a big city, and I can't get as far as I used to be able to on the same paycheck.

I'm thinking about moving location to save money, and I'm lucky that my company has lots of projects all over the country. Rent in a nearby and smaller city, along with living expenses would be a lot less, I wouldn't have as much of a social life, but that wouldn't really bother me, I've gone beyond the age of socializing on a weekly basis and I like smaller places.

I'm just a bit worried about the new recession coming soon, every expert that I've spoken to over the past few months has strongly hinted that there's a massive recession coming and it's not the correct time to change job, judging from what happened in 2008, it seemed that most people that I knew ended up losing their job in a quick period of time.

There's a piece of me that doesn't want to take the risk, just in case I end up jobless, if there are cutbacks at my new location, presuming that I decide to change, it might end up to be a last in, first out scenario.

What should I do? There are pros and cons, it's just very difficult to make a decision now when you look at what could happen in the future

Choose to live your life in fear; choose to waste your life.

Also, the grass always looks greener...yada, yada.

I wouldn't up end myself and move to a smaller city for the sake of €250 a month saving. Socialising and doing your café stops and taxis are a choice you make. Weigh up everything and don't pay too much heed to a recession on the horizon if your profession is a robust one and you are good at what you do.
