New contract, new probationary period?

    Hi everyone,

I am working in the public sector currently. I have been on a two year fixed term contract which is coming to an end this month. I have been told I will be made permanent by the end of the moment but will have to go through probation again.I was wondering if there is any need for this? I don't mind jumping through the hoops again but I was hoping to get a mortgage in the new year and permanency would help my application. Any thoughts?

    Thanks
