PEX pipe popped out of fitting, what do I need?

    Hey,

So about an hour ago the cold water pipe popped out of the fitting. It looks like the pipe insert had popped out of the pex pipe itself. I cut off the damaged pex end (Not sure why it looks like that?)

Fitting it all back together, it just leaks from the insert and the pipe can be pulled out of the insert. What do I need to do, to ensure the insert is fitting snug and is sealed?

Images of pipe and parts that were there.

    Thanks in advance

put the nut on first, then the olive, then insert the insert.

wrap some thread tape around the pipe in a clockwise direction.

tighten up nut nice and snug.

    Thanks stephenmarr,

Ah I see, so I need a new olive, then when I tighten the nut it will compress the olive and make the seal? The existing old olive doesn't fit over the pipe, so back to B&Q tomorrow I guess :-)

Yes the olive is a single-use item

Thanks both for your help. Got a new olive this morning, followed the instructions above. No leaks and everything is working again :-)

Always always crank down on those brass olives. I always take off the nut after tightening to check the olive is visibly distorting the pipe and can't come off .Also I advise a metal copper insert rather than plastic for this reason

Im not sure why they sell brass olives as these need alot of force to distort . The copper ones don't and will leak if cranked down Also you can use ptfe but I'd advise against it as it could mask a pipe with nut not cranked down.
