Spotify Auto play doing my head in

I have a 2020 Skoda Octavia. I use Spotify through the Bluetooth connection as opposed to Android Autoplay as I usually have two phones connected at the same time and it works better for calls.

Spotify is driving me mental. If I listen to music via Bluetooth and Spotify it works fine but for (what seems like) days afterwards Spotify will keep playing automatically every time I start the car or at random times like this morning. I was in the car for about 15 minutes and for no apparent reason Spotify comes on.

I've gone through settings on phone and Spotify and switched off everything I can think might be the cause. I've disabled background start up for Spotify on my phone settings and nothings working.

There has to be somebody else having this issue that's found a fix. Please please!

I've an android phone on version 12 but it happened on Android 11 also.

    Thanks

Do you have music set to Autoplay when you connect headphones? The phone might be detecting the car as Bluetooth headphones and starting playing.

I had that set up on my old phone and whenever I plugged in or connected BT headphones, it automatically started playing whatever I had playing last (usually in the car). Can't remember where that setting was in the menus though.

Just stop playing music on your Spotify app.

Shut it down before getting into the car.

Change the source audio on the radio from Bluetooth to Aux maybe? My Golf only autoplays on Bluetooth sometimes when I'm not bothered plugging it in, I believe it's because the audio source is Bluetooth and not radio or aux.

It does appear as though the car is showing as a headset, where might I change that? God only knows!

I've tried that, I force stop the app regularly and it doesn't make any difference. It's like the bad guy in a horror movie that just can't be killed!

I've had a look in the settings and that doesn't appear to be an ootion

This happens to me on CarPlay on Octavia with 2019 headunit using iPhone.. and it didn’t happen on the 2015 non CarPlay system I had before.

I have it all the time on Android 12 & my Avensis. Spotify always seems to be running in the background & once bluetooth is selected on the radio it usually plays. Looks like an Android issue rather than a car issue. I've also noticed if I'm charging the phone in the car without using Spotify that when I turn off the engine, Spotify starts playing on the phone. Haven't found a solution yet but plenty of users have this issue when I googled. Doesn't happen with Podbean.
