Does this yearly charge only apply to new contracts after July 30th 2021 ( on Vodafone)?

My contract began June 28th 2021 and expires this June 28th ( 1 year contract).

It says that the extra charge won’t apply for the duration of the older contracts older than July 30th 2021. Now does that mean until the contract actually expires or does it mean that if i don’t change from my current plan i’ll never have those charges imposed?

I'm still on the old Red Connect 12 month SIM only plan (since about 2016) and haven't had any price increase.

Isn't this operator specific? You should check with them directly.

I don't believe so, that's why I was saying this should be updated to note it's operator specific.

I've only heard Eir announce this so far but it would probably be naive of us not to expect similar styled increases from the other providers.

Vodafone started this off, 3 jumped on the band wagon then Eir. If you check their bill pay plans they basically mirror eachother, very little in the way of competitive pricing, an cartel of sorts!

I checked on their chat, and it said that it would remain 7.99 for me as long as I am with 48.

On Twitter 48 was asked will they be applying the CPI to 48 customers

    They said

Hey We do abide all the government laws applicable on our services thanks.

AFAIK there are no laws allowing companies to raise prices of goods / services relative to CPI.

For PAYG plans, the price is the price, it doesn't change. It's very difficult (likely impossible) to change terms of PAYG plans without the consumer opting for another plan with different terms / price. An example of this is Three's PAYG AYCE keep credit plan that they are trying to entice people to move from with "amazing" offers.

Unless the service provider specifically says that plan price is rising then the price stays the same.

The price paid by the consumer is the net price + VAT, there's no CPI or any other component to it no matter what spin the networks put on it.

This is just an annual price increase on bill pay plans pegged to CPI to make it appear like they've no choice.
