Tax car for four months

Hi

Bit of a conundrum. I'm late getting my cabrio on the road this year as I was putting in heated seats and got delayed.

I now want to tax it for June, July and August but if the weather holds, it would be great to get September out of it too, without having

to pay for October and November, when I'd never use it.

I thought I could apply for a refund but it looks like that's only possible if you leave the country, scrap the car or stop driving due to illness.

Is there any way around it?

I'm afraid not vehicles can only be taxed for 3 6 or 12 months at a time. So it's either the 3 months and hope for the best or bite the bullet and pay 6.

Not really set up for al la carte motor tax in this country.

You could pay for 3, drive untaxed for September and then declare off the road and pay the arrears for the one month?

Tax it for the 3 months and chance september... if your stopped you will have to pay the 3 months...

Doesn't work like that either you can only declare a vehicle off the road in the last month of motor tax i.e if you tax for June July August it must be declared off road in August starting from 1st September.

Yep, that caught me out once and again if you want to extend SORN it must be done before your original SORN runs out. It's really got inflexible. I wouldn't really like to chance September and there's no way to just pay arrears without paying for another three months.

Tax it for 6 months. If the difference is that significant maybe consider selling the car.
