    Hi Folks

myself and my sister flew back from New York to Dublin via Heathrow with BA. Got an email to say the London to Dublin flight was cancelled. The Manage My Booking feature on their website didn't let me rebook the London to Dublin flight so had to ring them. After much effort, finally got in contact with someone at BA to rebook the flight but the charged me £989 to do it. Before I go down the road of claiming against my travel insurance, I was hoping someone might have some information on the fact that they either shouldn't have charged or I'd be entitled to a refund. I figured there would be some EU regulations but of course the UK is now out of the EU. Grateful for any advice you might have.

    Thanks.

This is from the BA website. If there was an alternative you're entitled to it for free, if not then the refund. Sounds like there was if you could rebook?

Passengers whose flight is cancelled, shall have the choice of either:

    • Re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to the final destination of the ticket presented at check-in at the earliest opportunity or at a later date at the passenger's convenience, subject to availability; or
    • A refund payable to the person who purchased the ticket. This applies to the part or parts of the journey not flown.

If your flight is delayed for five hours or more, the purchaser of your ticket is entitled to a refund for the part or parts of the journey not flown.

I've had several BA flights cancelled recently but rebooking was always free.

Seems strange to me. Was it the exact same type of flight?

Yes, the exact same. Don't know why they charged but didn't want to be stuck so paid it and figured I'd sort it out when I got back.

There is definitely something wrong here. Assuming you bought a New York to DUB ticket then BA need to reroute on another flight from LHR to DUB at their expense not yours. Something may have got lost in translation when you phoned them but there is no way this should happen. Did you get this sorted?

    Hi VanHalen

unfortunately not. Having spent ages trying to get through to BA with no luck. I Googled 'BA' and 'contact number'. A number came up, dialled it and low and behold someone answered. It wasn't obvious to me I wasn't talking directly to BA. It was some thrid party that re-did the booking but charged me for it. An expensive lesson. :-(
