2013 Insignia estate 2.0D coolant leak help.

hi folks, I just bought a 2013 Insignia 2 L diesel station wagon and it's leaking coolant from somewhere.

I’m trying to detect the source of the leak but I’m struggling. The header tank looks like it’s brand new so I guess the previous owner had the same problem and he thought that replacing the header tank would fix the problem.

I have put the car up on ramps and got underneath it and there is red coolant on the under body like it has spread out from somewhere.

I noticed two sensors ports that are quite wet and also a rubber/plastic bung that looks like they might be the source. I have attached a few pictures here appreciate your thoughts on where the likely source might be or how to detect it.

Before I dive into that replacement is there a method to verify that the leaking EGR is the source of my issue?

So, I'm leaning towards using a bottle of coolant leak sealer for Diesel engines (if there is such a thing).

Has antone on here used them sucessfully or found them to be a big no no.

Steel seal gets good reviews without blocking everything up with gunge. It really would be better to pressure test the system, source the leak and fix it properly.

Dont know where that bulletin came from but Ive never once seen an egr cooler leaking on an Insignia.

What usually happens is that the bottle develops cracks and the owner replaces the bottle. But at that stage the damage is usually done further down the chain so to speak. The cap should be changed with the bottle but most people dont and as its a pressure cap the pressures can get so high that the leak moves to the next weakest point in the cooling system.

Id be looking at the water housing on the right side of teh engine as you are looking in and then at the thermostat housing on the left side of the engine. Both of these I would fit fairly regularly. Id also be inspecting the underside of the bottle for cracks - even though it looks changed if the cap wasnt replaced they can crack again on the underside of the bottle.

Be prepared to replace all bottle, cap, water housing and thermostat housing to sort the issue once and for all as sometimes we fit one and then pressure test and it leaks elsewhere. Its a massive pain when those insignias get coolant leaks.

It does look like a new bottle & new cap. I removed it and inspected it last week & found no evidence of a leak in the bottle or at the connection points to it. I'll take a look at the thermostat next if I can figure out what it look like & where it is.

I used this product in the end. It leaked for one more day after I added it to the tank & not a drip since. Satisfied.
