BMW F40 alloys on an F36?

I have an F36 (x-drive) with 18s 225/45/18 tyres front and 255/45/18s on the back.

Could I replace them with 17s from an F40 225/50/17 all round?

Reason for change is pot holes / country road damaging the alloys / balance

Also the 255s on the rear are a bit pricey and obviously can’t swap front and back tyres.

    thanks in advance.
