Don't think we've seen a links course on the LIV rota yet, that would be interesting

Funny reading comments from some of the players on the move to 72 holes. I guess it’s chip away at how to get world rankings. I wonder what’s next. A cut of some sorts to save Kim hacking around for 4 rounds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,852 ✭✭✭Trampas

rumours also adding a few more players to the field. Definitely needs a rebrand as there’ll be nothing left of the original format

They registered new team names i believe, but unsure if its for new teams or just changing names.

Be some craic if they get rid of shotgun starts

So Hatton said only 3 players wanted to go to 72 holes a year ago. Now they’re all embracing it. I guess they’ll say what the pay masters tell them. Some might look for 33% pay rise with the extra round

The hilarious thing about the change to 72 holes is that it's completely negated their branding. They're called LIV because those are the roman numerals for 54. 🤣

Seems Henrik Stenson is rejoining the DP World Tour after being relegated from his LIV team. He's paid fines of over £1 million to rejoin.

All the liv players or whatever it’s going to be called are playing in their paymasters country to get some world ranking points. Anthony Kim shoots 67, 64 to be 3 behind. Is he playing off different tees or given a few mulligans. Big mc is smith, Garcia, niemann, dj and world #2 gooch.

cam smith mc in Australia. Really fallen over last few years

Outside of LIV he played the 4 majors this year plus 3 events on the Asian and European tours with world ranking points available. He has missed the cut in all 7.

    Canter returns to Liv

The league's growth has been remarkable and my experience in the league has led me to become a more complete player and a multiple winner on the DP World Tour," Canter said. "To return to the league with Majesticks GC is a huge honour, and they bring a standard of excellence, ambition and identity that really resonates with me."

He forgot to mention to play with two bitter .. in the team

Where will he play next season? He has an automatic 1 year suspension on the PGA tour unless they make an exception for him.

I am sure the European tour would love to have him.

I think we might see more of this. The pga tour / DPWT in ways probably offers more flexibility (aside from the signature events with pga) as there’s no requirement to play each event unlike when you’re representing a team as well as individual prizes..

His statement comes across as someone not thinking about teeing it up anytime soon. He could play euro events and play PGA events like Canter did I assume but sounds like the least of his worries. I’m sure other players are watching to see what happens.

Separately I think brooks is a player who just wants to play where and when it suits him than get told to. Apart from majors

Too soon to understand exactly why, I suspect there may be a non golf reason behind part of the decision, hopefully all well with him and that's all that matters, followed him for a while in Portrush in 2019 and he has such a smooth swing, looks so slow but obviously not

At the time or shortly after, didn't he say or at least hint that his main reason for going to LIV was the wrist injury and the uncertainty as to how it would heal and that the LIV money basically secured his future should he not be able to play ? Not that he wasn't secure already of course !

I did see a tweet from someone a couple of weeks ago suggesting that the PGAT should waive the suspension and if there's any complaints from players, just tell them when you win 5 majors you can get special treatment too.

Wouldn't be his biggest fan but he's a hell of a player and if he's teeing it up in PGAT events again, it would certainly add interest and viewers I'd say. I mean Scottie's good, but watching paint dry is more interesting.

It looks to me like Brooks is prepared to wait out 2026 if necessary and return to the PGA tour in 2027. He will still be able to play in the majors this year and I'd be fairly certain some DP world tour events also, if the PGA tour enforces the 1 year suspension they have for players trying to come back.

After that his major champion exemption from the 2023 PGA gets him back on the PGA tour in 2027. He has shown the pathway back, especially for his fellow major champions who still hold exemptions.

Alternatively the PGA tour could drop the 1 year ban and straight away welcome back those with a live major exemption. That would put LIV under serious pressure as I reckon Rahm would jump at it anyway.

I think dropping the 1 year ban would be a very smart move for the PGAT, even if only on a case by case basis (if that would survive the legal challenges that would surely arise). Can't really see Rahm jumping back unless any money he'd have to repay back to LIV was relatively minimal. I think if he came back it would almost be the end of LIV, they'd have hardly any star players left bar DeChambeau. Plus it might give DPWT some sort of a plausible "out" on the Rahm/Hatton appeals that are coming up.

When you look at the LIV on course earnings list, its pretty insane amounts. Rahm has won $74m since he joined. Even Hattton has earned something like $24m. TBH I can see why they'd stay ! Even in an extreme example though, if they had to repay the full signing on fee (which would obviously never happen), its not like they'd be broke.

tnt sports showing liv this year. I guess they’ve to spend some of the money they’ve saved on champions league on something. Can’t expect it to be much for the rights as viewing numbers wouldn’t be big over here.

IIsn't it on paramount or discovery that is under their umbrella?

Kevin na leaves. There’s a player I don’t think has many supporters

Reed announces he's leaving too. Will play the European tour until August and then will attempt to rejoin the PGA tour. You'd have to fancy him to finish top 10 in the European standings comfortably.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,671 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Ooof the names leaving are bigger than those joining. Don't like the guy but he's pretty damn good, decent name to have on tour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,658 ✭✭✭big_drive

LIV is finished going by this. After losing two of their biggest names. Plus the new recruits announced recently aren't well known.

Only a matter of time before it folds

The younger guys like Reed still have plenty years of golf left in them and are ultra competitive. Once the novelty has worn off I think even the money isn't enough to keep them interested in playing LIV. I can't see Rahm staying much longer either. The win at the weekend probably gave Reed a bit of a buzz and made him realise what he's missing out on

Rambo is definitely just running down his contract. He will be back to the PGA next year. Bryson will surely follow too. The writing is on the wall now for LIV. Get out while they have a straight path back.

It will be interesting to see how many events Reed plays this year on the DP tour. He will definitely want to get into the top 10 to secure a better category of card than the past champions route
