Must admit I have a dog in this fight, being a secondary teacher. I would love to know what people think are their memories or qualities of their best teachers and what impact they had on you. Id love to have a positve impact on the students I teach but its very hard to know do they even understand much of what i teach them each day.

I think my two fav teachers were Mr. Dempsey and Ms. McKague. Both secondary

Reason being they both spoke to me as a person, not just a silly kid.

It would be between the teacher in 5th & 6th class in primary who was an incredible and inspirational educator…

    and

my history teacher in 5th and 6th year in secondary who was a joy to be taught by. He had an infectious enthusiasm for history and education, desperately wanted everyone to do well. Made the classes enjoyable, interactive and anybody struggling with a particular part of the curriculum he took a special interest in… so you always knew if you made a bôllocks of a test or homework he was always ready with a plan B to help you understand…history was a strong subject but i could appreciate just how kind, good and dedicated he was to educate. Ended up principal for a few years before retirement.

Sean Gallagher. A primary school teacher. Raging alcoholic and terrible temper but fantastic teacher. Alot of students were terrified of him, me and another kid got on well with him, probably because the 2 of us were different.

Worst teacher by a country mile. Secondary school teacher. Bobby "The earth is only 3000 years old" Larkin. And a vindictive little prick to match his unfathomable ignorance

Ms. XXX. 40 years old from Hongkong. I met her when i was 20. only realised later she was married when her husband sent out a notice to all her contact numbers after she passed(much too young). Just goes to show, H Dip in education is seriously overvalued

I never really had a teacher that inspired me or anything (I hated school) but recently one of my teacher's came into the bar I work in and realised he's sound! Ended up having a great conversation and ended up sending him a copy of my my exam results from 5th year in 92, He still maintains he was correct and now I agree!

Kevin O'Brien of St. Pauls Primary, Waterford.

Very different style from the previous!

He showed me at least that education can & should be fun!

Our 4th class primary teacher. She was known to be fierce and strict but actually she was kind at heart. Definitely no-nonsense though

She read us stories too and I still remember the books!

Well respected and liked by every parent in the area. She was so good people remember her decades later, long dead now

My 5th/6th class teacher Miss Keane. I wasnt a bad or bold minded student - i just talked during class or interrupted without putting up my hand. Found her to put manners on me that she explained well to me - she was known as miss keane the homework machine but i think i matured a bit in the 2 years of her teaching me.

And at my nanas funeral 2 years ago she attended it - to which I thanked her for the effort she put into putting up with me back in the day "she thought me to have patience also as i did wait until the mass was over lol"
