Ride The Classic Sportive

Galway Bay CC will once again host the “Ride The Classic” sportive on May 21st in East Galway, run over the same course as the road race, the “Galway Classic” which is being held the weekend before on May 15th. The sportive has 3 options, 70/100/150km each with several off road “sectors” on compact bog roads, farm tracks, and gravel roads, a lot like the Northern European classics road races. It’s great craic, very unique, and very doable by all. No special equipment needed…standard road bike with 25 or 28mm tyres is fine. did anyone do this in a road bike with 25mm tyres? What was the weather like at the time?

Yes did this twice on Vittoria corsa tyres, 25mm clinchers, 55-60 psi, got through both occasions just fine, bar a fall at one of the sectors

Wow that’s low PSI, not sure if at +95kg I’ll manage to get by with them that low !!

https://axs.sram.com/guides/tire/pressure this will help you pick a tyre pressure. I am about 90kg and run 70psi on 25mm GP5000 across canal gravel and roads with no issues.

Is the 80km route an open route that could be rode again over the summer or are some area's closed off and were only opened on the day?

I know on the longer routes the gravel sections were on some estates and farmland so I doubt they are open all the time
