Chicken & Egg Driving Problem

    1. I passed the theory test last year and did 12 lessons in a manual car + 2 extra so 14 in total. Cost was about 600euro
    2. I don't have access to a car to practice driving - I live alone. The information doesn't seem to stick. It's all practice when you are learning.
    3. I signed up for an automatic teacher instead and she is good but she charges a fortune and doesn't reckon I am ready for the test yet even in an automatic (I tend to agree with her as I don't have enough practice.) She cost me about 350e for 6 lessons and will charge me for 350e for 6 more lessons.

I don't want to fork out endless money for lessons and to be going around in a loop. The above has been going on for a year.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do? I have the money to buy a car and insurance but I know it's forbidden to drive alone on a provisional and I don't feel confident enough yet. Any advice? (I also wouldn't ask to borrow a friend's car due to insurance implications).

Ask your instrutor, if you have another lesson with her, to do the next lesson as a mock test and see how it goes.

Book the Test and do it, if your instrutor will let you use her car for it.

It's cheaper to do the Test and than she'll out for a load of lessons you won't need.

It's nearly taboo to suggest this in Ireland but if you do pass the Test (which I hope you do) and you're still a bit nervous about driving, you can still do a few ad hoc lessons to get pointers etc.
